Welcome to the Petersburg Home for Ladies
For more than three generations, The Petersburg Home for Ladies has been the preferred residential and assisted living facility for older women living in Petersburg, Hopewell, and Colonial Heights as well as the surrounding counties of Dinwidde, Prince George, Chesterfield, and beyond. Our original Georgian style building, constructed more than fifty years ago, is decorated with traditional furnishings that reflect gracious living in a bygone era.
We offer a level of service and care unequalled in the region. Our ratio of nursing staff to residents is 1:7. Our overall staff to resident ratio is 1:4. Staff turnover at the Petersburg Home for Ladies is exceptionally low. This means our staff members have time to cultivate relationships with our residents and provide the individualized care and attention they need and the extra pampering they want.
- We accept women who can function in a residential or assisted living facility.
- No large up-front fee or capital outlay is required to enter the Ladies Home.
- We offer both studios and suites.
- Private pay and long-term insurance are accepted.

Elegant Living with Exceptional Care
The Petersburg Home for Ladies accommodates 44 residents in a warm and nurturing atmosphere designed to make residents feel at home. We provide personal services that may be unavailable elsewhere.
Upon request, grounds staff will install and fill a bird feeder outside your window. The Ladies Home offers seasonal clothing storage. Housekeeping staff will follow your directions in packing and storing the clothing you don't need in summer or winter.
Residents may bring their own cars to the Ladies Home so they can pursue the community activities they have participated in all their adult lives, attending their own churches and garden club meetings or exercising at the local YMCA.
For those unable to go out for a morning or afternoon on their own, the Ladies Home provides a full schedule of activities. There are fashion sales and shows, pizza parties, pet visits, musical concerts, and special speakers. A van carries residents to theater performances, restaurants, museum exhibitions, and local malls. Trips to the bank are easily arranged.
Invite your friends to play bridge in the Blue Parlor. Extend an invitation to family or friends to attend our Spring Fling, an annual gala cocktail party where we open up the Ladies Home and its beautiful gardens for guests to enjoy.
Many ladies maintain their total independence throughout their stay with us. However, if a resident needs assistance at a higher level, the Ladies Home offers additional levels of assisted living care at an increased monthly fee.
Our licensed pactical nurses and certified nursing assistants are available to help residents with their activities of daily living including bathing and dressing. Trained staff members also assist with medication management when needed.
The Petersburg Home for Ladies is Unique
The Petersburg Home for Ladies is a local, non-profit organization which has been a Petersburg tradition for over 80 years. Its everyday operations are carried out by an Administrator in coordination with professional nursing staff and a full complement of office, housekeeping, dietary, and grounds personnel.
A volunteer Board of Directors oversees the operation of the Ladies Home. Board members, all of whom live in the Greater Petersburg area, are frequent visitors at the Ladies Home and participate in many of its activities. They interact with residents and staff on a regular basis, focus on improvements and modernization of the facilities, organize and attend social events, and help maintain the gardens.
It is the personal attention our Board members give the Ladies Home and our staff's devotion and commitment to our residents that make the Petersburg Home for Ladies an exceptional place to live.
The Petersburg Home for Ladies is committed to its unchanging purpose to satisfy the human need for security, companionship, care and love, and be an agent of blessing to all whom it touches.
